Winter Writing

February is coming to its end, and so is the winter. I am looking forward to face this Spring as a new start, fresh and full of opportunities.

Though, the real life becomes more complicated and challenges me almost everyday, the writing is still my place to escape when I need it the most.

Hence, the thought came to my mind – what if writing is a sort of a therapy? Slow, yes, even exhausting sometimes. But a therapy still. Otherwise, why would therapists ask people to diarize?

Exactly.

This winter end also made me to leave my shell:

  1. I quitted month ago, and felt free.
  2. I also applied to Toronto Film School program for writers – hopefully, it will bring me some nice experience.
  3. I gave another chance to audiobooks – I am more a visualizer than audio- so…let’s see how Mr. J. R. R. Tolkien will deal with it.

P.S. The editing of the “Ice Beast Tale” continues, there is still half a book left. And proofreading, of course.

Meanwhile…

…the Ice Beast Tale is waiting for me to start editing it, I decided to switch my attention to another story.

Spent almost 8 hours yesterday writing first draft of Titan – the second part of #Chimera story. James Bristol started his first year at a university and found new friends. As well as enemies.

Productive weekend had I. More yet to come!

~~~~~~~~
Поки…Сказанка про Крижаного Звіра чекає на мою редактуру, я вирішила приділити трохи уваги іншій історії.
Вчора вдалося приділити майже 8 годин на написання першої чорнетки Титана – другого роману з серії #Хімера. Джеймс Брістоул розпочав свій перший курс в університеті і знайшов собі нових друзів. Так само як і ворогів.
Тож в мене видались доволі продуктивні вихідні. Далі буде!
The Second Draft
Is finally ready! Ta-da-da-da!
It still needs tons for editing and, first of all, my inner powers to perform that editing. But that will be tomorrow. Today I am celebrating. As The Ice Beast Tale is a story I’ve been trying to embody since I was eleven years old, I guess. And my dream has finally come true!
I almost remember the day when it all started with a word Oraolё that came up to my mind. And here we are, decades later. Extraordinary feeling.
It is not the end of a story though, but a beginning. Which joys me most of all. As I am stuck with the characters I’ve been loving for years.
And as a New Year bonus to myself, I decided to duplicate my blog notes in Ukrainian. I never felt more connected to my people story than I am now. So let it be.
As per will and destiny
Другу чернетку…нарешті завершено! Та-да-да-да!
Вона ще потребує тонни редагування та, насамперед, моїх внутрішніх сил, щоб виконати це редагування. Але це буде завтра. Сьогодні я святкую. Оскільки «Сказанка про Крижаного Звіра» — це історія, яку я, мабуть, намагалася втілити в життя десь з одинадцяти років. І ця мрія нарешіті здійснилася!
Майже пам’ятаю той день, коли все почалося зі слова Ораолё, що застрягло в моїй голові. І ось ми тут, десятиліття потому. Надзвичайне відчуття.
Але це аж ніяк не кінець історії, а лише її початок. І це мене тішить найбільше. Бо ж це значить, що я застряла з персонажами, яких люблю, ще на деякий час.
І, як новорічний бонус, я вирішила писати обидвома мовами у цьому блозі: додала Української. Ніколи не почувала себе такою спорідненою з історією мого народу як зараз. Тож нехай так і буде.
Бо того є воля і доля
Deadline
…failed! I promised myself I will have finished the 2nd draft of The Ice Beast Tale until the end of this Summer. But I didn’t. Still have 3 chapters to write 🙂
Such a Tragedy! With a capital letter T.
But who cares 🙂 I don’t.
Still, lately I’ve been reading Max Frei books:
“Labyrinths of Echo”
“Chronicles of Echo”
“Dreams of Echo”
Highly recommend ^^
As stories come to an end I am a bit sad. But I am about to find another stories to dive into.
the illustration is googled.
Writers’ Stories
I’ve watched some movies about writers before. But kept denying that all that happened – had actually affected them.
How wrong was I. Isn’t it obvious that every word they put to a piece of paper is autobiographical? With dragons and mermaids, with rockets and far-far-far away planets. But all about what happened to them.
People write stories, as well as they read ones for different reasons. But no matter you read or you write – you have a common thing with others, a tiny secret key – you want to find someone who is capable to understand your feelings. If you love someone and you lose someone – isn’t it the most natural thing to want that feeling to be shared with someone? Share it with a book when you have no other options. Or no willing.
I rewatched some of moves dedicated to writers today. And have been thinking whole evening about what happened to them and to each other person brave enough to tell their story to the world.
A very thoughtful evening I had. And I hope it made me a bit stronger. Stronger enough to move on. Maybe you’d like to watch them too. Or maybe you have already watched them. And I hope you liked them as I did.
Reading for writing
Discovered a couple of books that keep helping me with building the story plot. Definitely recommend if you are a new to story storucture and character’s build up.
  • Katie Marie (KM) Wayland: Architecture of the plot. How to Create a Memorable Story
  • Blake Snyder: Save the Cat!: The Last Book on Screenwriting You’ll Ever Need
  • Jessica Brody: Save the Cat! Writes a novel
and a cutiepie that MidJourney generated for me recently:
Working routine
Writing day after day creates a good habit of consistent writing. But also, at some point you might feel bumping into a wall. That is where you stuck in routine.
I tried different ways of avoiding that point. But the truth is – the only way not to get there – make writing not 100% routine. Always try something new, look for something new, wonder, dream.
And give yourself some rest. Don’t let guilt overwhelm you. You deserve this rest as well as you deserve to write, create, express yourself.
It works not only in terms of writing. But also in terms of life.
Blackout
Today I overslept, but the new day came as always. It didn’t wait for me to catch up.
But it is okay. I needed this day to put myself together. Let’s hope it worked.
Earlier today I bumped into video of Ke Huy Quan overcoming with emotions when he was accepting his Oscar. I was so glad for him, like for no one else on the Earth. I would be acting the very same if I were on his place. I won’t be there but it was nice to share that joy.
I love people that are real. With real emotions.
Sister told me today that she is proud of me no matter what. I cannot imagine what I would do without her. She is the most supportive person I have ever had in my life.
Let’s see what comes tomorrow.
Inspiration
Where do you take one? For me the answer is simple: music. I 100% agree with Albus Dumbledore once said: ““Ah, music … A magic beyond all we do here!” And I cannot agree more.
Last months I have been working on “Ewayeen” novels and Bear McCreary’s music helped me a lot. Recently I am in love with God of War and God of War: Ragnarök soundtracks.
Wait for that, I have discovered so many brilliant composers when started writing. They transform music into real magic. Incredible people that don’t need to be introduced like John Williams, Dario Marianelli, Howard Shore and so many others. Their music help me every day, they help me even not-knowing about it.
So if you are looking for some inspiration, try these albums:
  • Bear McCreary: God of War (2018) / God of War: Ragnarök (2022) / DaVinchi’s Demons (2013) / Assassin’s Creed Syndicate: Jack the Ripper (2015)
  • Ramin Djawadi: Dracula Untold (2014) / Clash of the Titans (2010)
  • Alan Silvestri: Van Helsing (2004)
  • Robin Carolan & Sebastian Gainsborough: The Northman (2022)
  • Trevor Morris: Castlevania (2017)
  • Marc Streitenfeld: Robin Hood (2010)
  • Hans Zimmer: Man of Steel (2013) / Angels and Demons (2009)
  • Alexandre Desplat: The Imitation Game (2014)
Add a bit of magic to your Saturday evening.
