Останнім часом я дедалі частіше помічаю, як навчання в Toronto Film School впливає на мене не лише як на сценаристку, а й як на авторку книжок.
Сценаристика вчить дивитися на історію трохи інакше: бачити сцену, відчувати її ритм, прибирати зайве й думати не лише про те, що відбувається, а й про те, як це показати. Через це я стала уважніше працювати з діалогами, рухом персонажів, напругою та деталями, здатними розповісти більше за довгі пояснення.
Звісно, роман і сценарій це різні форми. У книжці можна зануритися в відчуття героя, затриматися на атмосфері, дозволити собі більше. Але сценарний досвід постійно нагадує мені: кожна сцена повинна мати мету, щось змінювати й вести історію вперед.
А ось я робила візуали до “Хімери”, “Дракайни” та інших своїх проєктів, і раптом особливо чітко зрозуміла: я справді бачу ці історії як кіно. Не просто окремі красиві картинки, а цілі сцени – з рухом, світлом, музикою, паузами й поглядами персонажів.
І тепер дедалі частіше думаю: а може, варто поступово перетворювати їх і на сценарії? Дуже можливо, що колись так і станеться 😄
Тож навчання сценаристики стало для мене не окремим напрямом, а ще одним способом краще розуміти власні історії. І, здається, книжки та кіно в моїй голові вже давно живуть зовсім поруч. 🎬📖

How Screenwriting Is Changing the Way I Write
Lately, I’ve been noticing more and more how studying at Toronto Film School influences me not only as a screenwriter, but also as a novelist.
Screenwriting teaches you to look at a story differently: to see the scene, feel its rhythm, remove anything unnecessary, and think not only about what is happening, but also about how to show it. Because of that, I’ve become more attentive to dialogue, character movement, tension, and the small details that can reveal more than lengthy explanations.
Of course, novels and screenplays are very different forms of storytelling. In a book, you can explore a character’s inner experience, linger in the atmosphere, and allow yourself more space. But screenwriting constantly reminds me that every scene should have a purpose, change something, and move the story forward.
Recently, while creating visuals for Chimera, Drakaine, and some of my other projects, I suddenly realized something very clearly: I truly see these stories as films. Not simply as a collection of beautiful images, but as complete scenes—with movement, lighting, music, pauses, and meaningful glances between the characters.
And now I keep wondering: perhaps I should gradually turn some of them into screenplays as well? It is entirely possible that one day I will. 😄
So, for me, studying screenwriting has not become a separate creative path. Instead, it has become another way to understand my own stories more deeply. And it seems that books and cinema have been living side by side in my imagination for quite some time already. 🎬📖

Lately, I’ve been getting more and more questions about the sequel to The Ice Beast Tale.
First of all, thank you so much. ❤️ There is nothing more rewarding for an author than knowing readers are waiting for the continuation of a story.
Unfortunately, I was very ill throughout the winter, so I barely wrote anything. Work on the sequel almost came to a standstill.
But now I’m back on the Continent, in Sklavyna, and in the world of Ewayeen.
And I can assure you—the story hasn’t been abandoned. Quite the opposite. It has grown far beyond what I originally imagined. The more I work on it, the more I realize that this world deserves much more than just one more novel. So… consider yourselves warned. 😊
However, I’ve decided to take a slightly different approach.
While I’m working on the second book, The Last Ones, I’d like to share a little about how it will be structured. Instead of traditional chapters, the novel will be told through a series of interconnected stories. Each one will introduce different characters, different corners of the world, and different events that will eventually come together to form one larger narrative.
I’ve always admired the way Andrzej Sapkowski approached storytelling in The Witcher, and I feel this format is a perfect fit for my own world.
The Last Ones is a direct sequel to The Ice Beast Tale. The story continues on the Continent, but this time the world becomes much larger. We’ll travel far beyond the journey of the Voloshyn brothers, exploring new lands and meeting new people, because the war has only just begun.
We’ll follow entirely new protagonists, each with their own story, their own path, and their own trials.
At the heart of the novel are two young men who, for now, don’t even know the other exists. Their destinies are remarkably alike, yet completely different. One is searching for answers about himself, while the other is simply trying to survive and protect the people he loves.
As the war spreads across the Continent, both will face devastating losses—but they’ll also find unexpected allies and be forced to make impossible choices. Though they walk different paths, they share the same goal: to find a way to end the war and give the Continent a chance at peace.
They don’t know it yet, but their paths are destined to cross. And when they do, it will only be the beginning.
Of course, this doesn’t mean we’re saying goodbye to the heroes of The Ice Beast Tale. We’ll meet them again, see how the war has changed them, and continue following their stories alongside those of the new characters.
While you’re waiting for the sequel, I’d like to announce a short prequel that will introduce you to another piece of Ewayeen’s history.
І насамперед хочу сказати величезне дякую. ❤️ Для автора немає нічого приємнішого, ніж знати, що на його історію чекають.
На жаль, цієї зими я дуже багато хворіла, тому майже не писала. Робота над продовженням практично зупинилася. Але тепер я повернулася до Континенту, Склавіни і світу Еваїїн.
І можу вас запевнити: історія не покинута. Навпаки, вона дуже виросла. Чим більше я працюю над продовженням, тим більше розумію, що одного роману цьому світу вже замало. Тому, начувайтеся))
Але я трохи зміню підхід. Поки я працюю над другою книгою, що носить назву “Останні”, хочу трохи розповісти, як вона буде побудована. Книга складатиметься з невеликих оповідей – розділів. Вони будуть про різних героїв, різні куточки цього світу й події, які зрештою складуться в одну велику історію.
Мені завжди дуже подобалося, як це зробив Сапковський у “Відьмакові”, і, мені здається, він пасуватиме і в моїй історії.
Це буде пряме продовження “Сказанки про Крижаного Звіра”. Події розгортаються далі на Континенті, але тепер світ стане значно більшим, ми вийдемо за межі подорожі братів Волошиних і мандруватимемо новими місцями, бо война тільки почалася.
Ми приєднаємося до нових героїв. І в кожного буде власна історія, власний шлях і власні випробування.
В самому центрі оповіді опиняться двоє героїв, які поки що навіть не підозрюють про існування один одного. Їхні долі дивовижно схожі й водночас зовсім різні. Один шукає відповіді про себе, інший – намагається вижити й захистити тих, хто йому дорогий. Попереду на них чекають війна, що і далі розповсюджується Континентом, і втрати. Але також з’являться і нові союзники й перед ними постане дуже непростий вибір. І хоча кожен із них іде власною дорогою, обидва мають одну мету: знайти спосіб зупинити війну й повернути Континенту шанс на мир.
Вони ще не знають, що зрештою їхні дороги неодмінно перетнуться. І що це тільки початок.
А поки ви чекаєте на продовження, хочу анонсувати невеличку передісторію, яка допоможе трохи краще зрозуміти світ Еваїїн.
I’m finally sharing something new — a story that feels very different from what I usually write.
“Blossoms in the Dark” is a novel about a young woman who gradually loses her sight and learns how to live in a world that suddenly begins to exist through sound, touch, scent, and memory instead of light. It’s a story about fear, acceptance, love, and the strange way people sometimes begin to see the most important things only after the world goes dark.
Honestly, I wasn’t planning to write this book right now. But this story arrived in my head and stayed there so stubbornly that every other project had to wait.
And maybe, as someone with very poor eyesight myself, I understand my heroine a little more than I would like to.
I hope you’ll love Jane and her story as much as I already do.

Викладаю зараз дещо нове, за кілька днів виставлю всі розділи. Це історія, що зовсім не схожа на інші мої роботи.
“Квіти в темряві” – це розповідь про дівчину, яка поступово втрачає зір і вчиться жити у світі, налаштованом на людей без вад зору. Про страх. Про прийняття. Про любов. І про те, що іноді людина починає бачити найважливіше лише тоді, коли зникає світло.
Чесно кажучи, я не планувала писати цю книгу саме зараз. Але ця історія прийшла мені в голову й засіла там настільки міцно, що всі інші проєкти довелося змусити чекати.
І, мабуть, як людина з дуже поганим зором, я розумію свою героїню трохи більше, ніж хотіла б.
Сподіваюся, Джейн сподобається вам так само, як уже встигла сподобатися мені.
So I log in to Booknet and see 353 notifications waiting for me — wow. And then it hits me: when was the last time I actually wrote or even edited something? And honestly… writing this post already feels like an achievement. Because I’ve been moving for a whole month now, and I’ve written absolutely nothing. It’s always something — boxes, papers, work, life — and life never says: “Oh, you want to write? Sure, I’ll wait with all my problems.”
And yes, writers, just like everyone else, don’t manage to do everything. Something always suffers — and very often it’s the writing. And that’s okay. We’re human, not machines that print out manuscripts on demand.
Sometimes a day where I only manage to jot down a few notes for future scenes is all I can give. And if you have your own survival tips for being a writer in a world where you also have to, you know, live — share them, I’d love to steal a few 😉
And here’s a little piece of my characters from my Chimera trilogy while we all wait for me to finally finish editing the last book.
Як письменники встигають все? А ніяк 😄
Отже заходжу я на booknet, а в мене 353 сповіщення, он як! І я собі замислилася – а коли я власне востаннє щось писала чи хоча б редагувала? І виявилося, що писати цей пост то вже моя перемога, бо чесно? Я переїжджаю вже місяць і нічого не пишу. Бо то коробки, то документи, то робота, то життя, яке ніколи ніхто не скаже: “О, ти хочеш писати? Давай, я почекаю зі своїми питаннями.”
І так, письменники, як і всі інші люди, не встигають зробити все-все. Щось завжди страждає, і часто саме письмо. І це нормально. Ми живі люди, а не машини з видачі рукописів.
Інколи день, коли вдалося написати тільки кілька нотаток для майбутніх сцен – це все, що є. І якщо маєте свої секрети виживання письменника у світі, де треба ще й жити, а не тільки вільно писати цілий день – діліться, я буду рада піддивитися 😉.

Being a writer costs more than people think. It’s the hours you could spend with family. The laundry you’ll do tomorrow. The dinner you forget to eat because you’re stuck in one stubborn scene.
It’s realizing your book might be read by a handful of people — your family, a few strangers who stumbled across your page — and that’s it. It’s knowing your writing isn’t perfect, but still trying, learning something new with every sentence you rewrite.
And still, we do it. Because somewhere between the frustration and the flow, between the silence and the spark, there’s a moment when the story breathes — and that makes it all worth it.
Maybe that’s the whole point: we write because we love the process. Otherwise, there would be no writers left.
Ціна бути письменником
Бути письменником — це дорожче, ніж здається. Це години, які ти міг би провести з родиною. Прання, яке ти зробиш завтра. Вечеря, про яку ти забудеш, бо застряг у впертій сцені.
Це усвідомлення, що твою книгу, можливо, прочитають кілька людей — твоя сім’я та кілька випадкових читачів, що натрапили на твою сторінку. Це розуміння, що пишеш неідеально, але все одно прагнеш і вчишся — з кожним реченням.
І все ж — ми пишемо. Бо десь між розчаруванням і натхненням, між тишею й іскрою є момент, коли історія оживає — і заради нього все це варто пережити.
Мабуть, у цьому й сенс: Ми пишемо, бо любимо сам процес. Інакше письменників би просто не існувало.

Spent this weekend glued to my computer. But — the second draft of Drakaine, the final part of the Chimera trilogy, is officially done. Now… I just have to write it 🙂
