There are characters whose stories we learn right away. Their conflicts, problems, arguments, and pain are all there on the surface.
And then there are Martin and Lilith.
Their story remains outside our view for a long time. We see only fragments of it: an old resentment, a silence that has lasted far too long between two people.
Martin and Lilith have known each other for a very long time. Long enough for several human lifetimes to fit inside a single memory. But somewhere in their past lies a decision that can no longer be changed. One of them was convinced there was only one possible choice. The other had to live with the consequences of that choice.
Many years have passed, but time, as it turns out, does not always make things easier. It can dull the pain, teach us how to live beside it, and even convince us that everything has long since been left behind. And yet some feelings prove far more stubborn.
Especially when they concern someone you probably should have stopped loving a long time ago.
Sometimes we want what we can no longer get back. And sometimes we keep wanting something we feel we no longer have the right to ask for.
I really love that Martin and Lilith have a story of their own. It never quite takes center stage, but that does not make it any less important.
In the third and final part of the trilogy, Drakaine, their story will have its own resolution too. A great deal of time has passed, and yet neither of them has managed to forget the other.
Will they finally be able to make peace with each other?
We’ll see. 😏

~~~ Смерть вже розлучила нас ~~~
Є персонажі, історію яких ми дізнаємося одразу. Конфлікти, проблеми, суперечки, біль. Все на поверхні.
А є Мартін і Ліліт.
Їх історія довго залишається поза нашими очима. Ми бачимо лише окремі їхні уламки і бачимо стару образу, надто довге мовчання між двома людьми.
Мартін і Ліліт знають одне одного вже дуже давно. Настільки давно, що кілька людських життів для них могли б уміститися лише в одному спогаді. Але у їхньому минулому залишилося рішення, яке вже неможливо змінити. Один із них був переконаний, що робить єдино можливий вибір. Іншому довелося жити з наслідками цього вибору.
Минуло багато років, але час, як виявилося, не завжди робить речі простішими. Він може приглушити біль, навчити жити поруч із ним і навіть переконати нас, що все давно залишилося позаду. Проте деякі почуття виявляються значно впертішими.
Особливо тоді, коли йдеться про людину, яку, можливо, варто було б давно перестати любити. Часом ми хочемо того, чого вже не можемо повернути. А часом продовжуємо хотіти того, на що, як нам здається, більше не маємо права.
І мені дуже подобається, що історія Мартіна й Ліліт існує. Вона не опиняється в центрі уваги читача, але від цього не стає менш важливою.
В третій і завершальній частині трилогії, Дракайні, їхня історія теж матиме свою розв’язку. Минуло багато часу, а забути одне одного вони так і не змогли.
Чи зможуть вони нарешті примиритися?
Побачимо.
A few more pictures from Drakaine — the final book in the Chimera trilogy.
Still editing. Still rewriting. Still finding new ways to make life difficult for my characters. 😅
But we’re getting closer to the end.
YOU CAN READ DRAKAINE IN UKRAINIAN ALREADY!
A little update and a few announcements. So — “Blossoms in the Dark” is now fully available to read. Huzzah!
This story unexpectedly took much more of my time and attention than I originally planned. At some point, I realized I kept putting other projects aside because my thoughts always drifted back to Jane and Provence.
But now, after Jane and I finally came to an understanding, I can return to my other unfinished projects. First of all — “Drakaine,” the final part of the “Chimera” cycle. It still needs editing, but I’m already diving back into that world.
And now a little bit of my usual writer complaining and a lot of gratitude.
The life of a writer can be surprisingly lonely. Even when a story refuses to let you go and you practically live inside it, most of the time it’s still just you, a keyboard, a notebook, and hundreds of pages no one sees for months. Inspiration doesn’t always come easily, and support is even rarer sometimes. That’s why I’m genuinely grateful to have this blog and people here who understand how difficult it can be to write big stories.
Maybe that’s also why I’ve been thinking more and more about continuing “Ewayeen” in the form of shorter stories or novellas. Otherwise, I may end up stuck with it like George R. R. Martin… and I would really prefer to avoid that fate 😅 Writing one book for 5 or 10 years sounds impressive, but sadly I do not possess such magical resources.
So prepare yourselves, dear readers, I plan to be here much more often now. And I hope to support all of you the same way you’ve been supporting me this whole time.
Thank you for that 🤍
Трошки анонсів і новин. Отже, “Квіти в темряві” тепер можна читати повністю. Huzzah!
Так вже сталося, що ця історія зовсім несподівано забрала в мене значно більше часу й уваги, ніж я планувала. В якийсь момент я навіть помітила, що відкладаю інші проєкти, бо весь час подумки повертаюся саме до Джейн і Провансу.
Але тепер, коли ми з нею порозумілися, я маю час повернутися до своїх відкритих проектів. Насамперед, до “Дракайни” – останньої частини циклу “Хімера”. Її ще чекає редагування, але я вже знову поринаю в цей світ.
І трохи мого ниття і слів подяки. Життя письменника буває доволі самотнє. Навіть якщо історія тебе не відпускає і ти живеш в ній – найчастіше це просто ти, клавіатура, блокнот і сотні сторінок, які ніхто не бачить місяцями. Натхнення приходить не завжди, а підтримки часом ще менше. Тому я справді дуже рада, що в мене є цей блог і люди тут, які розуміють, наскільки важко писати історії.
Мабуть, саме тому я все частіше думаю, що продовження “Еваїін” буде у форматі невеликих оповідань або повістей. Бо інакше я ризикну застрягти з ним як Джорджа Мартіна… а цього я все ж хотіла б уникнути.😅 Писати книжку 5, 10 років – це круто, але я такими ресурсами не володію, на жаль.
Тож начувайтеся, любі читачі! Тепер я планую бути тут частіше. І так само підтримувати вас, як ви весь цей час підтримували мене.
Дякую вам за це! 🤍
A few new pictures for my novel – Drakaine. The last one in the Chimera trilogy. Still working on editing this one.
So I log in to Booknet and see 353 notifications waiting for me — wow. And then it hits me: when was the last time I actually wrote or even edited something?
And honestly… writing this post already feels like an achievement. Because I’ve been moving for a whole month now, and I’ve written absolutely nothing. It’s always something — boxes, papers, work, life — and life never says: “Oh, you want to write? Sure, I’ll wait with all my problems.”
And yes, writers, just like everyone else, don’t manage to do everything. Something always suffers — and very often it’s the writing. And that’s okay. We’re human, not machines that print out manuscripts on demand.
Sometimes a day where I only manage to jot down a few notes for future scenes is all I can give.
And if you have your own survival tips for being a writer in a world where you also have to, you know, live — share them, I’d love to steal a few 😉
And here’s a little piece of my characters from my Chimera trilogy while we all wait for me to finally finish editing the last book.
Як письменники встигають все? А ніяк 😄
Отже заходжу я на booknet, а в мене 353 сповіщення, он як! І я собі замислилася – а коли я власне востаннє щось писала чи хоча б редагувала? І виявилося, що писати цей пост то вже моя перемога, бо чесно? Я переїжджаю вже місяць і нічого не пишу. Бо то коробки, то документи, то робота, то життя, яке ніколи ніхто не скаже: “О, ти хочеш писати? Давай, я почекаю зі своїми питаннями.”
І так, письменники, як і всі інші люди, не встигають зробити все-все. Щось завжди страждає, і часто саме письмо. І це нормально. Ми живі люди, а не машини з видачі рукописів.
Інколи день, коли вдалося написати тільки кілька нотаток для майбутніх сцен – це все, що є. І якщо маєте свої секрети виживання письменника у світі, де треба ще й жити, а не тільки вільно писати цілий день – діліться, я буду рада піддивитися 😉.
А це ось вам трохи моїх персонажів з моєї трилогії Хімера поки ми всі в очікування коли ж я доредагую останню частину
It’s the second book in the “Chimera” series — a story where magic steps out of the shadows.
James Bristol chooses not to enroll at the Academy of Magic, hoping to avoid the close watch of the Council of Five.
Suspecting them of a conspiracy that nearly got him killed last spring, he’s determined to find his aunt Charlotte – also a chimera – to protect her from hunters and the Council, and to learn more about his own powers.
But when vampires arrive in the city, also hunting the chimera, James realizes he needs to act fast – before the conspirators catch him first.
In his attempt to uncover the Council’s plans, he ends up captured and learns the terrifying truth: his power is the key to an apocalypse that’s about to begin.
